Promising outlook on Forestry

The forestry Industry is going from strength to strength with the price of timber rising, seen by the increase in demand for timber from the biomass sector. There has never been a better time for forest owners to reap the rewards of their investment. According to Michael Connelly from SWS Forestry, “The forestry industry received some welcome news last December when Minister Coveney announced that he wanted to maintain the Government’s commitment to the forest industry and in particular to the afforestation program”.

Recognising the multifaceted nature of this industry, and the many benefits that accompany it, on Minister Simon Coveney’s recent visit to SWS Forestry’s head office in Clonakilty he discussed the potential for forestry and the potential the industry has for sustainable job creation, especially in rural areas.
Speaking on behalf of SWS Forestry after Minister Coveney’s visit, Michael Connelly stated: “It is reassuring to see that the Government recognise the many benefits of forestry and the important strategic role it plays in rural Ireland. It is vital that funding is maintained for the forestry sector and that the time, energy and money invested over the last number of years is carried on into the future. This shows the commitment of the Government to the forestry sector’’. Michael Connelly went on to say “Forestry is a vital industry for rural areas in Ireland and also for farmers who want an option for a secure investment with a very good return”.
