Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental Social and Governance (ESG)

Forestry has become a key element of the discussion around reducing global carbon emissions in order to limit global warming to 1.5°C. The 2015 Paris Climate Agreement and the EU’s Action Plan on sustainable finance are spurring the flow of more institutional capital into forestry. As a result, more forestry investment products and strategies, which deliver market returns and environmental and social benefits, are becoming available. Such products and strategies include developing carbon offset programmes as part of emissions trading schemes, conservation easements, and biomass production for generating renewable energy.

Forestry investors are exposed to a range of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors. How those factors impact investments—whether they materialise as risks or opportunities for value creation—depends largely on an investor’s responsible investment approach. A holistic approach to responsible forestry investing includes certification as well as the use of other tools that address specific issues in more depth, such as land rights and usage.

Actively fulfilling environmental responsibility is the necessary step for companies to realise sustainable development. SWS Forestry helps design and implement forestry projects on behalf of its corporate clients, that adhere to CSR principles which require compliance with national environmental laws and regulations, the establishment of appropriate and sensitive forest management planning; increased investment in environmental protection, and the protection of the environmental demands of stakeholders by placing environmental benefits at the core of the forestry investment.

We at SWS Forestry are working with partners to devise Forestry Solutions that meet their Corporate Social Responsibilities and enhance their ESG credentials. We are seeing the growing public interest and consciousness of environmental and social issues through increased pressures on entities of all sizes whether that be small businesses right up to global multinationals to play their part. We at SWS Forestry are working with partners to help them play their part in carbon offsetting and as one of the leading forest management companies in Ireland we are well placed to bring innovative and in many cases ground breaking forestry solutions to these companies to help them achieve their CSR and ESG goals.
